21ccp - in a nutshell

Posted: Wed, 30/11/2011 - 09:45

Do you realise?

The indwelling catheter must be the most antique medical device still in regular daily use around the world. First introduced in 1937, it is associated with an horrendous list of complications; such as blocking, leaking and stone formation.

Among contacts this month is Greg Wiita of Poiesis Medical, who are based in Florida.  Greg has experience of developing and bringing to market three medical devices.  Very useful skills and experience from the Project's perspective.

As February closes we just pass 200 registered supporters on the website. Good in less than a year, but we must do better in 2012. If you can bring another supporter to us, please do!

Our Work

During a typical month the Project is contacted by catheter users, researchers and equipment consultants – the various lead members respond to these, taking the opportunity to promote the Project.

In addition, we attend conferences, both as speakers and as 'attendees with a message'. The main source of new supporters this month has been from one such conference, The Urinary Catheter Debate, and you can read more about our attendance at this conference under On the Forum.

More Results

Following publicity in The Times last month describing the catheter as “healthcare’s hidden scandal of neglect”, the number of our supporters has doubled and the number of completed questionnaires has tripled. Thank you to everyone involved.

We need all the evidence that we can gather but the vital question remains, how are we going to develop that 21st Century state-of-the-art urinary collection system? Please let us have your suggestions!
